Shakugan no Shana Volume 3 Prologue

POOR MAN’S INTRO

First translation of the year. Very short.

I am part of two Shakugan no Shana discords. A link to one of them can be found in the Shakugan no Shana table of contents. I occasionally stream translations/editing into them.

This is a rewrite of the old Baka Tsuki translation for Volume 3. I don’t know the name of who translated this. If you do know, state it in comments.

Volume 3 marks the start of the Aizen siblings arc.

PROLOGUE

The Power of Existence is consumed by Crimson Denizens, causing distortions in the world. This was told to me by Alastor, and my experiences have confirmed this statement. Even before I encountered beings such as him, Wilhelmina, and others, I was aware that much of the world was hidden away from the eyes of most people in the world.

Crimson Denizens have been constantly invading the Human World for a very long time. They originated from the Crimson Realm, unreachable from the Human World. As they did not belong to the Human World, Crimson Denizens must consume the Power of Existence in order to manifest themselves and create “miracles” in the form of Unrestricted Spells, Rinne, and Treasure Tools.

Unlucky humans who are robbed of their Power of Existence find any physical trace of their existence gone. Any memories of their existence are similarly deleted. Mysterious events of unknown origin, confusing contradictions, and other unnatural states created distortions in the world.

Among the more powerful Crimson Denizens were the Crimson Lords. They feared that excessive distortions would cause irreversible damage to both the Human World and the Crimson Realm. In order to prevent this, these Crimson Lords decided to exterminate those who consumed the Power of Existence, even their own kind.

Of course, if the Lords themselves materialized in the Human World, then they, too, would have to consume the Power of Existence. To avoid this hypocritical situation the Crimson Lords bestowed their power to human beings who sought revenge against the Crimson Denizens. In return, these humans would sacrifice their entire existence and be used as a tool for the Crimson Lords. Those contracted to Crimson Lords were called Flame Hazes.

The Truth of This World is kept hidden from the ordinary humans. For the sake of protecting the balance of the world, we Flame Hazes must exterminate the Denizens. That objective was all I had, and was the sole reason for my existence.

But when I came to this city, I was given something. Something that neither Alastor nor Wilhelmina gave me.

Most Flame Hazes are identified by their weapon of choice. As such, my title was the “Nietono no Shana,” after my sword.

However, the boy I met in the city gave me a name.

“Shana.”

And I started to change.

And I will continue to change.

Volume 0 will have to wait for now. At the moment, I play to rewrite the old Baka Tsuki translations for Volumes 3 and 4 (and finish translating 4).

This prologue is just to let you know that I am still alive, and to also test-run the OmegaT service and resolve any problems.
